Zone Conferences and the baptism of David and Danielle, February 24th, 2020

February 10th, 2020
My week was good and busy. We did have a meeting but not zone conference yet. It was an MLC (mission leadership council) so all of the leaders in the mission get together to learn. We planned it at the start of the week then had it and it went good. I also had more exchanges so I went with different missionaires for a day. Then the last few days we have been planning for zone conference. It should be good! 

Then also pray for Isaac Cruz and his family. Isaac is a 10-year-old and his parents are returning members. Isaac is not baptized yet so we are working with him. 

Question: Funnest thing you did this week
Answer: One day for companionship study we drove out next to the beach and did our studies out there. That was super fun. 

February 17th, 2020
My week was good. We had zone conferences. There were 3 of them so Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday was taken up with meetings. They went super good though. Then on Saturday I got to go to the baptism of David and Danielle. I worked with them when I was up in Goleta so that was so fun to watch them be baptized. I'll send a picture from it later. There is one more lady that I worked with up there who will hopefully get baptized soon too.

We are working with a man named Jerry. He is living with his girlfriend of 15 years and they don't plan on getting married anytime soon so it kinda haults his progress for a time. We will see what happens though.

We are also working with Isaac, a 10-year-old boy who has not been baptized. His parents are inactive so we are teaching the entire family.

I am doing good! I love that scripture you shared with me. 3 John 1:4 “I have no greater joy  than to hear that my children walk in truth.” It's a good one. I am trying to do the best that I can hahah the lord is definitely super good to me and I couldn't do this without his help! 
 


February 24th, 2020
My week was good. Isaac is looking forward to getting baptized on March 14th!!! We had some really good lessons with him and his parents this last week. His mom and dad are loving coming back to church and Isaac is understanding so much. We are so excited for them. 
Jerry is doing good too. Like I said before he has a long road ahead of him but we are working hard with him. 
We are getting everything set for transfers this week. It should be good! 

Question: What was your them for Zone Conference?
Answer: Our theme last zone conference was Preach My Gospel. As a mission we read the whole Preach My Gospel cover to cover over a three week period and zone conference was based on it. 

Question: What’s been the funnest thing you’ve done while on your mission?
Answer: That's a tough one. We went sledding at some sand dunes one p-day which was tons of fun! There have also been a couple really cool hikes I've been on that are in the running for funnest.

On August 7th, 2018 Laine was set apart as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by President Joey L. Skinner. Bishop James Fawson and the Morgan 5th ward Young Men's President Kurt Bryant were there to support him, as well as both sets of grandparents, siblings, and parents.This was a very special event for our family and we're very proud of Laine.   Laine's grandparents Rondo and Mary Erickson are serving as full-time missionaries in the Utah Layton Mission as an office couple. Our family is very blessed to have these missionaries serve the Lord.

First week in the MTC

A wonderful tender mercy during Elder Carter's first week in the MTC was that the speakers for the devotional on Sunday night were Brother Wayne T. Watson and his wife Luana Watson. President Watson and his wife were Jessica's mission president in the Finland Helsinki Mission. They were released in June of 2017 and Laine attended their homecoming in Orem, Utah and talked to them about how his sister was doing. Our family loves the Watson and Elder Carter reported that it helped him a lot to hear them speak. Elder Carter reported that he is two rooms away from the new missionaries assigned to serve in the Helsinki Finland mission. He talked with them about how cool Finland is and how much he loved meeting their current mission president Ilkka Auara when he visited Finland in June of this year.
